Aztec Princess Stage Costume- Final by Kennadee Aztec Princess Stage Costume- Final by Kennadee
After only having had two weeks to design, buy the fabric/supplies, and sew this to completion, IT IS FINISHED.
This is my final project for my Theatre Costuming 101 class (my first class in my actual major!!). We were asked to take the classic PLAY of Sleeping Beauty (not the Disney film!!) and design all the costumes in it (one for each character). They all had to be colorful, since it's a children's play. But the catch- was that they had to be historically accurate to one time period/civilization. We had to pick out of a hat, and I got the AZTECS. We were then asked to take one of the costumes we designed and MAKE it to wear ourselves and give our final presentation.
Soooo...
This is my version of Sleeping Beauty, done Aztec style!! (Yes, I just HAD to choose the princess. XD)
I chose complementary colors for all the costumes, but I wanted the princess and the prince to stand out the most, so they're literally in the most eye blinding ones. I'm standing outside in these photos on an overcast day, so you can imagine how bright it'll be in direct sunlight or stage lights!
The whole costume is handmade, from the buttons all the way to the gold jewelry. The brown is leather that's been hand dyed, all based off of a pair of sandals I already owned. The gold has all been sprayed on so it all matched, but it's all still handmade. All the patterns used to make this costume were handmade by me as well (I make all my own patterns). If anyone would like these patterns, I have no qualms with sharing my knowledge!~/

Anyways, ENJOY!!! I hope I get an A!!! P.S. For those of you who go "WTF" because you KNOW I have super short hair- YES, that is a WIG. We theatre majors have so many on us they're falling from the eaves, ya know?

Your costume is very neet~Okay, the color scheme is smooth. Very clever by using a neutral brown which didn't made the work overpowering, and also that middle orange rectangle kept the costume an cohesive piece.
I can see you pleated the dress-a very hard technique.
Fridges and feather gave a nice organic impact. Originality is a thought turn vision turn real masterpiece!

Oh man I totally meant to comment on this.
You, woman, must have a lot of patience. I know I could never muster something like this. But wow it's seriously so lovely ;w; And colorful, I love that! I also really love the little shoe/sandals. I'm very impressed, it sounds like a lot of time went into this ;^; But that's good because the outcome is super wonderful. I love it when, not only can people draw well, but when they're also super fantastic at other mediums of art, including sewing ;w; Again, really wonderful job, I can't stop looking at it oAo

Aww thank you so much! I'm actually... not that patient? As soon as I designed this, I literally just had to sew it and make it a reality. I had it completely finished in about... oh, I don't know, four or so days? By the time our final week came around my professor said "Just don't come to class, there's no reason to until our final presentation" because I was done already!
Sewing for me is like... smoking is for other people? It's something for me that's both a stimulant and something that's relaxing. So whenever I'm stressed or upset or really emotional I just go and sew something and BAM I feel better. It was funny, actually... I had gotten into a HUGE fight with my boyfriend and we were gonna break up and I went and sewed this... and felt so much better! All my rage and emotions just went into sewing it and I just super concentrated on all my stitching. By the time I'd finished sewing it, we'd made up and I had my final totally done!
It's why, no matter how much I love digital art or drawing, I'll definitely go into costuming as my job. As Mary Poppins says "In ev'ry job that must be done , there is an element of fun. You find the fun and snap! The job's a game!!". Sewing for me is like that. I mean, yeah it's work to sew. It's stressful and you have to get things just right or everyone can tell something went wrong... but designing and making something a reality is just SO much fun! I can't tell you how cool it was to draw out my stick figure princess in her dress and then look in the mirror a few days later and look just like her- but real!
Every time I come on here and someone compliments me on my work, I just get this blossoming feeling in my chest. It's like getting a present or something? Haha. It's so rewarding to see it done and then have people enjoy it just as much as you do. : )
Thank you again so much!!

I hope you get a good grade for this! You certainly got the Aztec feel with flashy colours for the kids. You make a nice Aztec Princess.
